“If you’re a man with a lot of issues, like a history of drug abuse, or you have a problem with sexual dysfunction, you should know that Viagra and other drugs are available without a prescription,” explains R. B. Sainio, MD, a pediatric specialist at the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine and Dentistry. “If you don’t have access to a doctor, then you may have a medical problem, which can make it difficult to get a prescription. But we know there are treatments for erectile dysfunction, including Viagra, in children.”
While Viagra is the most common medication for treating erectile dysfunction, there are other treatments for this condition, which are not covered by insurance.
“When you take Viagra, you can take it in pill form,” explains S. S. The pills will be taken once a day and should be taken only when sexual activity is planned. Sainio notes that some doctors don’t recommend Viagra for men with erectile dysfunction, and that they also recommend that men take a low dose of Viagra (5mg) for their symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Viagra is a prescription drug, and the FDA has cleared it as being safe for use in children. In addition to being safe for use, Viagra has not been linked to sexual violence. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved it for children.
However, in a recent study, researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas found that Viagra was not associated with any significant increase in sexual assault or sexually transmitted infections in children. (In the study, 8.5 percent of sexually active male children were prescribed Viagra and had been exposed to the drug in order to be sexually active.)
Sainio emphasizes that, “This is because Viagra can be very effective in treating erectile dysfunction, but not for sexual violence.”
“I’m sure there are other treatments that are better for sexual dysfunction,” Sainio says. “But if you take Viagra, it is a little bit easier to get a prescription.”
If you take Viagra and have been sexually active, Sainio explains, “you can try a lower dose of Viagra if you have a history of drug abuse.”
“It’s important to be aware that Viagra can be a dangerous drug for people who take it, especially young children,” Sainio says. “If you’re taking Viagra, you can take it on an empty stomach. It’s better to take Viagra with food, so you don’t have to swallow it or take it with food.”
Although the FDA has not approved Viagra as a treatment for sexual dysfunction, Sainio says there are other treatments for erectile dysfunction, including.
“There are also other options, such as oral medications, which have been shown to be effective in treating sexual dysfunction, but it is important to talk to your doctor about your options,” he explains. “If your doctor is interested in treating your sexual dysfunction, talk to your doctor about what options are available.”
Sainio emphasizes that sexual dysfunction can be a symptom of a wider problem, including:

This enhanced blood flow allows for a firmer, longer-lasting erection when sexually aroused.
Viagra does not directly cause erectile dysfunction. Instead, it acts by increasing the levels of sildenafil in the body, which helps improve blood flow to the penis. This increased blood flow helps men with erectile dysfunction achieve and maintain an erection.
Regardless of how Viagra works, it can cause side effects in a number of ways. As part of its mechanism of action, PDE5 can increase the levels of a molecule known as cGMP, which relaxes the muscles in the penis. This relaxation allows for increased blood flow and improved blood flow to the penis.
Viagra also can cause another mechanism to operate: it increases the flow of blood into the penis. This increase in blood flow helps produce an erection. Viagra works by increasing the levels of cGMP, which relaxes the muscles in the penis. This relaxation helps improve erectile function.
In addition, PDE5 inhibitors can increase the levels of a chemical called as angiotensin II, which can also affect blood flow to the penis. This increase in blood flow helps achieve and maintain an erection.
